Theme Change? Post here!
Pinned FeaturedIn general, we can work with almost any theme. The most important thing is that you have a sidebar that's at least 300 pixels wide excluding padding and doesn't shrink to smaller than that. You'll also want a responsive design that includes a mobile view.
Since theme changes have been known to make ads disappear, we recommend launching a new theme during business hours which are Monday - Friday from 9am - 4pm CST.
Important reminders:
- If your new theme has a sticky sidebar, our script will not be able to place a sticky sidebar ad. You'll need to ‘un-stick’ your sidebar to make sure we can properly target an ad there.
- We recommend a font size between 18-22px and a line height of 1.6-1.8.
- Journey ad placement works best with long-form post content. Because of this - we only place content ads in post templates with long-form post content.
- Right now, Journey only places content ads throughout actual post content since otherwise these ads could break the layout of pages. We also don't currently have an option for manual ad placement, but you'll still have the adhesion banner ad and Universal Video Player able to load on the homepage.
Once you've changed your theme - please fill out this form so we can make sure selectors are correct and recrawl your site if need be!
You can also check out these help articles to assist in the meantime.

Hi Fran,
Your site has been recrawled and ads are now serving.
Eliass
Your site has also been recralwed and the sticky sidebar ad is serving. It looks like there are content hint tags in the content area preventing in-content ads from being inserted. Removing those and clearing your site's cache could help.0 -
Hi, my site is wagglytails dot com. Got set up the other day and the sticky footer ad and video player loading fine but having no luck in getting the in content ads to trigger. The site is an SPA and I've tried various hints markedup around the content areas on certain pages but just not seeing any in-content ads at all. As a side note I've also had to disable sidebar ad slots as they were showing up in weird places overlaying content. Less important than getting the in content ads showing up but if there's any advice on getting that right also would be much appreciated!
Thanks :)0 -
Hi Jonathan Swain,
Your site has been recrawled and ads should be serving now. You can take a look and see if the sticky sidebar ads are loading better now if you'd like, but may need to append ?test=placeholders to see it. They should only load in on posts where there is a sidebar widget present.1 -
Excellent thanks very much! All looking good now.

Hi Journey,
I updated my theme on apartmentcharm dot com and since then my in-content ads and sidebar ads are no longer showing. Grow features are working, and the bottom banner/ad is still showing, but article and sidebar ads are missing.
Could you please check if anything needs to be adjusted or recrawled on your side?
Thank you!

Hi Journey Team,
I am reaching out regarding a site-wide delivery issue with my ad units. Currently, all ad formats other than the sticky bottom adhesion ad are not working.
While I see sidebar and in-content units populating correctly on one specific resource page, they are completely missing on the homepage and across the rest of the site's content pages. Only the sticky footer is showing site-wide. I was expecting various ad formats including interstitials, video sliders and different banners. The only ad visible is the Grow place holder ad. I was wondering how long will it take before I see real ads.
I have just completed a technical update to my custom HTML to ensure no technical errors are blocking the bot. I have:
Confirmed the Mediavine script and Grow.me initializer are in the <head> of all pages.
Standardized content wrappers with class="post-content entry-content".
Identified main content areas with id="main-content" and class="post-body".
Clearly defined sidebar containers (id="left-sidebar" and id="right-sidebar").
Site URL: https://synapsecorp.pages.dev
Could you please trigger a site-wide re-scan? I would like the bot to re-evaluate the homepage and secondary pages now that the structural selectors are in place.
Thank you for your help in resolving this!

Hey
Can I request a recrawl of felixcompetitions.uk please.
thanks in advance

@...,
Those selectors don't appear in your site's markup and we were not able to locate sidebars in any of your content. Did you forget to push these changes live or clear caching?
With your current layout, ads are optimally targeted. Journey does not support custom ad placements and having different post template types prevents in-content ads from being targeted to all posts.0 -
Your site has been recrawled. Your sidebar lacks a unique selector to target and is less than the minimum 300px width. If you want to rectify those issues, we can recrawl your site again at a later date.

Thank you for pointing that out. I have fixed the sidenav width issue, and changed the tag from a `div` to `aside`
Can I request a re crawl please.

Many thanks

Hello Journey Team,
For some reason, ads on my site (pockethints.com) are only showing in the sidebar and as a bottom sticky unit and none are appearing within the content itself. Since the site is built with React and doesn’t use a traditional theme, I’m wondering if there’s something I need to implement in the code to make in-content ad placement easier for the crawler.
Thank you!

Can you re-crawl my site please: https://www.portugueserecipes.ca/, I updated the sidebar width on the index, category and search pages.
Thank you.

Martin The sidebar content area must be 300px wide excluding padding. Your sidebar content area is 258px wide. Ads cannot be targeted to the sidebar if it does not meet the minimum width.

Eliass The issue is sites built with nested Flexbox structures and pagebuilders bury content into multiple child containers. This makes it difficult for the script to locate and target content selectors accurately, especially since unique selectors are rarely used with these site structures. Some of your pages are able to place in-content ads, like this one, because there is a unique content selector available.

Oh wow I wasn't aware of that, must of missed that in the docs.
I have updated all relevant side bars to comply with this, can I request one final recrawl for:

thank you once again

Hi Support team,
Thanks for the explanation! I've updated the site structure to fix this. I added the
entry-contentclass to all the main text sections, FAQs, and lists across the site to give the script clear, non-flexbox targets for in-content ad insertion.Could you please trigger a recrawl of the site so the script can pick up these new selectors?
Thanks.

If you made edits to your site's content or sidebar areas or changed your theme after launching Journey ads, please fill out this form to request a recrawl of your ad selectors.
Please note that sites with heavily nested content (such as sites built with Flexboxes or pagebuilders) are not wholly compatible with Journey and we do not guarantee in-content ad placement with these layouts.
To display sidebar ads, your sidebar must be at least 300px wide excluding padding and may not shrink to a width smaller than that regardless of screensize. It is alright if it drops below content or is hidden on mobile devices.
To correctly display ads on mobile devices, your content area needs to be 300px wide excluding padding and margins.0
