Big discrepancy between Journey sessions and GA ones
AnsweredWhy are my Journey sessions so much lower than my GA and Clicky sessions? There's more than a 200 difference between the two.

So there is one script by Grow which was given during trial period and monitors sessions and views, and there is another script by Journey which places ads on the page. I want to be sure I still need to have both scripts in html files. Can anybody confirm this?

Zurab Kereselidze Yes, that's correct! You need both scripts to run Journey for the reasons you've outlined.

We are seeing more than 50% sessions in Google Analytics than in Grow… I mean, GA4 shows that in the last 7 days we had 14,4K sessions and Grow shows only 5,3K… That is A LOT LESS.
Could you please fix that? Is obviously affecting our ad revenue.

Hi Triana Tinajas Balboa - Your earnings and impressions are tracked separately by the ad server, and they're not based on analytics. This means that your earnings will still be accurate and unaffected by any analytic issues that may occur.

Hi Mary,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but more page views, more sessions and more impressions is more ad revenue, isn't it?
And if I'm seeing a lot less sessions, page views and impressions in Grow than in GA4… it does affect our ad revenue. Is that correct?

Triana Tinajas Balboa Your revenue is paid directly from the advertisers based on the ad impressions your readers see. This means that even if the session data isn't aligned, you still did get paid for every user that was served an ad. So because that's tracked entirely independent of analytics, your earnings would be correct.
Not every session is going to earn the same amount of impressions because all traffic earns differently based on a number of different factors (like device, geography, even browser!)

Usually there is a small difference between my GA sessions and journey sessions, about 100. But since 21st November, the difference is quite big. About 50% of GA sessions are missing.
Was there a script update or something that might have caused Journey sessions to be way off?

Has this been fixed?

Hello,
I've been experiencing this problem since around November 18. My session count has more than halved, while my "real" traffic on ga4 has not dropped.
It's been working fine so far and I haven't changed anything.
Can you do anything to make it work again?

Thanks in advance

Hi there! Our data team is reviewing analytics from around 11/20 onward since they seem unusually low for some sites. This isn’t revenue impacting at all - it’s only an analytics reporting issue. We'll post updates in this open thread whenever we have more information.
Thanks!

Same issue here as others described. My GA4 sessions are about 50-60% higher than Grow sessions.
I also noticed that my Grow ads take a while to load upon initial page load. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

We are also seeing this problem. We use multiple tools to track our analytics, primarily GA4 and Clarity. We have noticed that the recorded sessions on Journey are very low when compared to both of these other tools.
Whilst we understand some variation in data collection is inevitable, we have a hard time understanding why Journey's numbers are so much lower than both other tools.
We'd also appreciate this being looked into.

I am missing 8k sessions, Google analytics says I have 41k sessions and Mediavine dashboard says I have 33k. That's a lot of missing sessions. I am missing 600 just from yesterday. This is a huge discrepancy and a lot of missing money I would like accounted for. Pageviews however are pretty much spot on. My pages per session is also spot on.

Hi Julie Boston - we've commented on this a few times, but I wanted to jump in.
When Google Analytics is connected to your site, we use ‘session start’ data from Google Analytics as ‘session’ data in your journey dashboard.Session data is not used when calculating earnings. You're paid through impressions, which is tracked independently through the ad script. This means that even if Google Analtyics were missing from your site, you would still be accurated paid based on impressions.
