Aka, where does your money come from?
The Earnings displayed in your dashboard come from the ad server. Not from Google Analytics or Grow Analytics. Impressions and CPM are the building blocks of your ad revenue.
- Impressions = How many ads you served, including video and refreshes
- CPM = How much advertisers are spending per 1000 impressions
FAQ
I removed the Grow Plugin/GA4 Tag. Will this affect my earnings?
The short answer is NO. Your earnings and impressions are tracked separately through the ad server and aren’t dependent on analytics. This will affect session tracking and RPM calculations, though.
My RPM changed, but my earnings didn’t. Is that normal?
RPM is just a calculation done after the fact. RPM is Revenue / Traffic * 1000. Any time either your revenue changes or your traffic changes, your RPM will change. It is perfectly normal for RPM to fluctuate. It’s always good to remember that just because your RPM goes up, it doesn’t mean you made more money. If it goes down, that doesn’t mean you made less.
RPM is not the same as earnings - it is just a helpful tool to understand how your site is earning.
I got a ton of traffic, but my earnings stayed the same!
More traffic ≠ More money. One of the reasons we don’t pay per session is that not all traffic monetizes at the same rate. Two readers from the exact same location won’t monetize the same, depending on a number of factors such as time on page, device, and even down to which browser they are using! The goal is to focus on more quality traffic from higher-earning countries that are engaged with your content.
