What is a ‘rebrand’?
A rebrand is any time you change the root domain/URL to your website.
Advertisers base their spending on your readers and your traffic, but the building block they start with is the history of your domain. When you change your URL, you're essentially reintroducing yourself to advertisers.
For this reason, we typically advise against changing your URL, but we understand that as your brand identity grows, you might want a URL to match.
Rebranding does not mean rebuilding your site from the ground up or merging two sites - it just means you’re maintaining the same awesome content but with a URL that might suit your site better.
Next Steps:
Once all your 301 redirects are in place, you’ll want to email us at help@journeymv.com with the details. Be sure to email us from the assigned Owner account in your Grow Publisher Portal and include your old URL and the new URL.
Note: You do not need to register your new URL in the Grow Publisher Portal. We will update the URL in the Grow Publisher Portal on our end.
Things to check after you’ve rebranded:
- Make sure your Business Domain is up to date.
- Ensure your Journey Script is installed and up to date on your site. Sometimes you will need to reconnect after your URL has been updated.
- Make sure your Ads.txt is up to date
- Update your Privacy Policy URL. It can take a moment for the system to catch up with the change in URL. If you get an error message that your domain does not match - don’t worry! You may just need to wait a few hours and try again.
Note: If you are unable to enable your Journey Script and/or Ads.txt, try logging out of the Grow Plugin and logging back in fully. If that still does not work, please double-check that you are logging back in using the correct account associated with your site in the Grow Publisher Portal.
If you updated your theme along with your URL, be sure to post in this thread so we can recrawl your script.
