Ads causing CLS fail pushing first image down while ad loads
Hi, I've been working with someone to investigate layout shifts that are causing my website on desktop to fail CLS in Core Web Vitals.
We've been able to pinpoint that the first ad, whether it's above or below my first image, is causing the shift and the fail.
We've added PHP and CSS code to stop the ads causing the layout shift but we haven't been successful yet.
I know we don't have the option on the Journey dashboard to optimise for Core Web Vitals but do you have code you can recommend that I can add to stop the ad from causing my layout to shift? I have too many posts to group blocks in past posts (if that would even work) and I would like to find a resolution that applies to all posts.

Thanks

Hey Sharon Goodwin - sorry to hear about the Core Web Vitals issues you're having! Out of the box, Journey ads are optimized for core web vitals, just like Mediavine Ads. We do this in a few different ways, but the optimizations that have a direct impact on core web vitals are:
- We load ads into ‘ad-boxes’ which are reserved ad spaces in-content. This removes any CLS that would be caused by a new ad loading in.
- All ads load below the fold, which remoes a CLS impact ad boxes loading into your content could have if one was to load in while a reader scrolls.
While these optimziations aren't perfect, we've found that the majority of Journey publishers are passing core web vitals while running Journey ads.
We have a little more information on Journey ads and how they relate to site speed over in our help center.0
