Tyler Morrison - One thing I like to remind people of is that RPM is not the rate that you earn. In fact it's calculated AFTER you've already made your money. RPM measures your revenue in relation to your traffic and is all based on an equation: Revenue / Traffic * 1000 = RPM

So as your revenue and traffic fluctuate, so does your RPM.

Having your RPM increase or decrease doesn't automatically mean you made more or less money—it means that your traffic is monetizing at a different rate per 1000 sessions. (You can read more about it here.

I don't see anything optimizing your script and from a technical perspective, everything looks good. Here's a help article about how to make sure your site is optimized for ad placement that I definitely recommend checking out.

But just looking at your site I did have a few recommendations.

    • Break up long paragraphs. Since most readers skim content and use mobile devices to browse sites, shorter sentences and paragraphs keep them more consistently engaged. Breaking up your paragraphs to 1-3 shorter sentences allows the script wrapper to place ads more optimally and boost impressions.
    • Your font is pretty small right now on desktop and mobile. We recommend a font size of 18px minimum. Font size is an easy change to apply, and it gives your entire site a bump in length, and can be good for SEO.
    • Your mobile header is pretty big and takes up a lot of real estate on mobile. I'd maybe look into reducing that so there's more actual content in the screen view.
    • If you're looking into starting a newsletter I'd recommend checking out Automailer! It's a pretty hands off approach to a weekly newsletter.

Journey is Self Supported

Our support staff is monitoring this forum everyday for bugs related to ad delivery, the display and functionality of the Journey dashboard, and any bugs related to the onboarding process. We are typically unable to assist with non-bug related issues like RPM performance expectations, issues setting up the ads.txt file, and questions already answered by our existing help docs. Read here for a more detailed breakdown of how Journey is self-supported and our recommendations for how to find answers to common issues.
