Hey Megan H. - I am glad you asked about this because I wanted to provide some insight for you and any other Journey publishers who might stumble upon this thread.

November is typically a good month because not only is it Q4, but advertisers also ramp up spend ahead of big US holidays, since they want to make sure their products are front and center for all readers. This November was a bit different because it was an election year. Advertisers were tunneling all their budgets that are usually set aside for December, right before the election in early November, making the drop in December look a little more jarring than expected. There's always a drop at the beginning of any month, but either way -

We do have these resources that can help you best optimize your content. I'd recommend checking them out!

I'm seeing the same exact thing. I reached almost $40 RPM and it has just steadily declined in December despite tripling my sessions. Every day my sessions are higher, my RPM drops. Then when my sessions are lower the RPMs raise. I'd love a good explanation for that as it makes no real sense. My RPM is down to $28 right now from $40, it just keeps going down.

    Hey Julie Boston
In an election year, there is a big push in advertising demand leading into the election. So all the election ads are getting served first, while the other brands have to wait to serve. Because of this a lot of brands have decided to wait and see what happens with the economy and maybe defer some of their spending to later months.

Good day; I am also experiencing the same thing. My RPM was between $20 and $28 in November and Early December, but I witnessed a big dip in my RPM a few weeks ago. Despite having more sessions. My RPM is currently $10 now, it's so frustrating and not a good signs. Is there anything I can do?

Julie Boston I'm having the same problem. Whenever my sessions increase, my RPM drops.

Hey Jasveena R. Prabhagaran - That's not uncommon! RPM is just an equation that gets calculated after you've already made your money.

    • RPM = EARNINGS ÷ TRAFFIC x 1000
      (EARNINGS = CPM x IMPRESSIONS ÷ 1000)

Depending on the CPM and impression numbers, your RPM can fluctuate and go down even if traffic increases.

You can read more about RPM here.

In the past 7 days my RPM has dropped below $3. I did read that a dip in January in normal, but it's still pretty rough 😅

Atte Tanner Oh definitely! The drop in January (and July) is pretty jarring. Aside from optimizing definitely double-check to make sure there aren't any conflicts with your Journey script
