Ads not Showing
AnsweredI am seeing some ads on some posts but not all of them. Can you help me troubleshoot this? Thank you!
Also, my sessions dropped almost in half the day I added journey. (this week) Is this typical? Thanks!

Hello! I just took a look at the site, and it appears that there may be some caching that is keeping the ads from displaying on all posts. If you get all the caching cleared out, they should display on all of your posts.
With regard to sessions, a drop in sessions isn't something that is typical. If you're seeing a difference in sessions in your Journey analytics in your publisher portal from what you're seeing in your Google analytics, that's not uncommon as the metrics used to calculate each are a little bit different and can vary.
If you're seeing a drop day over day in your GA reporting, though, that's not something we typically see. If it's persisting, it could definitely be worthwhile to take a look at your analytics implementation to make sure nothing was changed when you were getting things setup. Thanks!!

Thank you. I did clear the cache and even checked with my hosting provider to make sure, but I am still not seeing ads on some of the posts.
I am not seeing a discrepancy between GA and Grow. Just a decent drop in general on the day the ads were implemented and continuing currently.

I just checked on the site again, and ads are displaying for me. Sometimes an optimization of our script can cause something like this, but I'm not seeing that on my end either. It's possible that there's some browser caching or even that you've run out of premium impressions on your end since you're likely on the site more often than a typical reader.
What you can do is open the site in a new incognito window to check on what the ads are looking like. Also, you can append
?test=testAdsto the end of a post URL, and that will signal our script to display placeholder ads. You can try this on the posts where you're not seeing ads currently, and if you still don't see the placeholder ads, please just let us know.Regarding the sessions drop, as I mentioned before, we don't typically see any correlation at all between launching ads and something like a drop in traffic. In some cases, if a publisher was previously using Adsense and had their analytics linked to Adsense or Google ads, then engagement time could show as dropping in Google Analytics. It could make sense to double check in your analytics settings to make sure this isn't what you're encountering.
Besides that, it could make sense to double check your analytics implementation and to do some real time testing in your analytics to make sure the tag is firing as it should. Thanks!!

Hello, I am having a similar issue. I went live 2 days ago so perhaps it is still managing things around?
I can only see the same ad from Grow on my footer and sidebar and I have cleared the cache and checked on incognito, even asking a friend to check it out for me but no ads on the text. Any idea what it may be? Thank you, Evgenia

Hi Evgenia Mataragka ! You're right that it can take time for the script to fully automate for each site after launching, but you should be seeing content ads now and I'm seeing them on my end.
Thanks!

Hello Rachel,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can see them too. Is it possible to manage the number of displayed ads on a page? They seem to me a bit too many :)
Thanks!

Hi Evgenia Mataragka ! There aren't currently any settings for this, but different ad density options are in development and should be available in the near future. If you have further questions about ad density, you can follow and post in this active thread.

Hello, on most of the pages on my website I can see only sticky bottom ad (728 x 90) ad only. Other ads are not appearing. I tried testing on a couple of pages with “?test=testAds” at the end of URL then also only 728 x 90 placeholder ad is showing.
Can you help me with this issue?

Hi Akshay Thapliyal ! From what I can see, the site is made up of short form landing pages with varying formats, and Journey will typically only place content ads throughout long form blog post content with consistent HTML structure, since otherwise these ads could break the layout of pages. We also don't currently have an option for manual ad placement, but you'll still have the adhesion banner ad and Universal Video Player able to load on pages, which are some of the most performant ad placements.
If there are long form blog posts using a post template on the site and I missed them though, feel free to send over a URL so we can take a look.
Thanks!

Also, let me know how to enable the sidebar on all pages. I had sticky sidebar with auto-ads when I was using AdSense. Can I have kind of same?

Akshay Thapliyal the Universal Video Player is enabled by default and looks like the below:

You can test it on your end by adding ?test=placeholders to the end of a URL and refreshing - this will insert a placeholder ad/video in all the ad slots on your site.
It looks like the script was able to place ads here due to the format, but the HTML of the other pages on your site are different from the one linked. If they were all built in the exact same format with all of the content directly under the class .page_main_content instead of nested in separate rows, then ads should start loading on these pages.
As for the sidebar, I'm not seeing a sidebar container on the site currently - it looks like a fullwidth layout. If you add a sidebar though, you can let us know and we can see about placing the sidebar ad.
Thanks!

Yes, I am able to see the video ad by appending ?test=placeholders to the end of a URL. But it is not appearing when I am directly trying to access the site, any particular reason?

Akshay Thapliyal it will only display if it's bid on and you're served an ad in the video player. If it isn't bid on, then it won't load. As the owner of the site, your ad impressions are used up much more quickly than the average user's since you're on your site much more frequently, so it's normal for it not to load as often for you. This is the case with all ad placements. I can confirm it's working as expected and loading on our end, though.

Akshay Thapliyal You'll want it to stay at least 300px wide to accomodate the ad, which has a maximum width of 300px. Thanks!

Hello Rachel, I tried Journey 3 months back for 14 days and the RPMs were not good and I had to switch back to AdSense. I thought of giving second chance to Journey and applied ads on 3rd Jan 2025 and its been almost 18 days and the RPMs are still very very low compared to AdSense. And no sign of RPM improvements. I know the RPMs stays low during January and AdSense PRPM went from $8.5 to $6 in Jan initially. But Journey PRPMs are mostly lower than $2 and haven't even touched $3 in past 18 days.
I think its time to go back to the AdSense permanently. Journey ads earning is not even half of what AdSense was delivering.
Thanks

Hi Akshay Thapliyal I took a look at your site and the biggest thing I'm noticing is that your Impressions Per Pageview are very low because your content doesn't leave a lot of room for in-content ads.
Journey's ad setup works best with long-form content because you're paid based on impressions rather than sessions/pageviews. Our ad tech works best with posts/pages that keep a reader engaged and scrolling, but with shorter posts, readers aren't given enough content to continue scrolling through and don't have much to engage with.If you are looking to terminate your account with Journey, please email your 30-day notice help@journeymv.com. Be sure to include the URL to your site in your email.

Hello Mary, thanks for your reply. One of my known persons is having good CPM despite having low content. His website has even less content on pages than I have.
I will wait for few more days for RPM improvement and will then take the final decision.
Right now one issue I am having is on the homepage where sidebar ad is not showing and also in-page ads. However, on other pages like /image-combiner ads are showing. I have created a sidebar container but still ads are not appearing on homepage sidebar.
And I think there is some issue with the ad script. On my colleague website also the in-page ads did not appear on the homepage while they appear on other pages. I have to place ads there as a lot traffic visits directly on homepage.
Could you please help me with this?
Thanks,
Akshay

Akshay Thapliyal - How advertisers spend is very specific to the site and that particular site's audience so I wouldn't recommend comparing from site to site. You'll want to see how advertisers are spending on your site. I'd recommend looking through your top posts and seeing which posts are earning a higher CPM to see which topics/formats advertisers are responding to and go from there!
But for your other question! Journey doesn't place sidebar ads on the homepage.
