Issues enabling ad script
AnsweredI am having issues getting ads set up on my site. I realized that I somehow have two properties within my account, and I think one of them that isn't fully installed is messing up the other one. Could I get some guidance on this, please? Is it possible to delete one of the properties?
When I try to enable the scripts, it gives me errors and a bullet list of things to fix before it will work... (these are copy and pasted)
- We can’t seem to find your ads script. Check our FAQ for troubleshooting options.
- There is a Grow for Wordpress update available for this site. We recommend updating the plugin to the latest version before continuing.
- We found conflicting ad code running on your site. Launching ads with Journey requires you to remove code from any previous programmatic ad partners. If you are bound by an agreement with another ad provider, stop here. See this Help article for more information on exclusivity requirements.
- We can’t seem to find your Ads.txt file. Check our FAQ for troubleshooting options.
I am confused by some of these because there is no current update for the plugin in wordpress, I already updated it. And I also haven't run ads on my site in a long time, so there is no ad script that I am aware of, unless it is hiding somewhere I don't know to look.
Is there something that I am missing?

For anyone else who runs into the conflicting ad code message, here's an in-depth help article that goes over how to remove conflicting ad code from your site and where you typically can find the conflicting code. Please read over all of the troubleshooting steps and if you need assistance or can't find the code, reach out to your host or developer for assistance.

Hi Candace - thanks for reaching out! I took a look at your site, and I'm seeing Google Adsense code, which could be the root cause of these errors. Below is the script you'll want to remove:
<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6789947081032268&host=ca-host-pub-2644536267352236" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
From the source code, it looks like this is being inserted by the Site Kit plugin.
Once you remove it, clear all caching and let us know if you're able to get everything up and running!

Hi Rachel,
Thank you so much for responding! I think I got the google adsense off that site kit had put in there. But it is still telling me that it can't find the ad script or the ads.txt file once I enable the ads script for grow. When I hit the button, it takes me to my wordpress dashboard, but doesn't do anything else. It is supposed to take me to the Grow plugin to enable somthing within there?

Hi Candace!
Thanks for removing the AdSense script! It sounds like the connection isn't working properly. We can't say exactly what's causing this, although it could be a firewall or security setting in a plugin or through your host that's preventing Grow from connecting.
If you've already tried all of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the official comment here (including logging out of the plugin and trying to log back in), then you can try manually installing the ad script following these instructions and the ads.txt file following these instructions. If you still run into connection issues with the manual installation, this could definitely indicate there's a firewall or security setting in a plugin or through your host that will need to be disabled, and you can reach out to your host to have them take a look at that.
Hopefully that will get you up and running, but if you run into any additional issues, please let us know!

Hi Rachel,
I reached out to BigScoots and they can't seem to figure out what is blocking it. Here was their response…
-------------------------
Your ads.txt file is visible and accessible, you can find it at: thewheatlesskitchen.com/ads.txt
We don't have security or firewall rules in place blocking Grow or their plugins from working.
I would recommend asking them what exactly they are trying to access that is being blocked.
When your site loads it seems that the ad code is there, as a request is made to:
client-rapi-mediavine.recombee.com/mediavine-prod/recomms/users/5519e70b-73d9-4d3b-8e6d-60ddbfb0edd9/items/?frontend_timestamp=1717104570&frontend_sign=8e5086d6e3d390b53627c1f4552d86ab18db4a37
I'm not certain where the issue lies, unfortunately. If they can provide the exact error from their logs or from Cloudflare the RayID, that would be very helpful assuming they are getting blocked. However, I can't find that happening at the moment.
In either case, the URL they are attempting to access and the error would help.---------------------------------
Do you have any guidance for me as far as what they are asking for?
- Candace

Hi Candace,
Thanks for reaching out to your host! Your ads.txt file is visible, but it's a Google AdSense ads.txt file instead of the Journey ads.txt file. In the past, BigScoots has sometimes had to whitelist the MediavineMetadataParser user agent from being blocked in Cloudflare due to increased bot protection. Could you check with them on that?
If that isn't the issue, then I would recommend just manually installing the ad script following these instructions and the ads.txt file following these instructions. That should get you up and running.
Thanks!
