Currently the recipe ad settings are the same as Mediavine's recommended ad settings and there isn't a way to reduce them, but you can change general content ad density using the ad density options in your dashboard, which you can read more about here

You can also block off sections of content by adding an opening and closing <div> around the area you don't want ads to break into. Here's an article on how to do that.

    Thanks!

Hi Jason, while there aren't any current options for adjusting frequency, we will have an option shortly to remove ads from individual pages.  Once that's available, I'll be sure to follow up in this thread to let you know.

Great to know Jacob. Will we have the option to reduce the ad density or remove ads from our recipe cards as well? Right now my recipe card has four huge ads in it, even for simple recipes.

Jason Hitchcock I just wanted to follow up and let you know that an option to disable ads on specific pages is available.  All you would need to do is paste this HTML into the body of the page you want ads disabled on:

    <div id="ad-management-config-settings" data-blocklist-all="1"></div>

I would urge caution though since if this gets pasted into an element or template that is sitewide, then you could be unintentionally disabling ads site wide.  Just be sure to add it into the “content” of the page you want ads disabled on.

Jana Dziak currently there is not an option to adjust density.  However, if you can link us to a recipe where you have a concern, we'll be happy to take a look and see if it's working as expect or if we can make an adjustment.

Thanks Jacob! Looks like the code is working well.

For others looking to change the display density, simply group elements on the page into a container or block where you don't want an ad breaking them up.

Thanks Jacob and Jason. I'm also looking to be able to change the number and format of ads on our posts.

As for Jason's comment: Grouping elements may be a workaround but it's not really practical to format around ads and going back through hundreds of posts to reformat obviously doesn't make sense.

Jacob: Thanks for the disable code. But again, it's really important to be able to control the number of ads and also their size, shape, and appearance. I realize Journey is still in Beta but I'd really like to see more control in the near future. Right now I'm seeing a sticky banner ad and video ad at the bottom of the page and something like 6 inline ads (EDIT: just counted 14 inline ads on mobile in one of our roundups) which really breaks up the flow of our posts. The inline ads also float within their little boxed area so they stay on the page longer and can be square or banner: for me this is very distracting. I'd prefer to see static leaderboard ads for inline so I'm not scrolling as much to get to the next paragraph. Pretty much any feature that makes me feel like I'm reading a recipe blog is off putting for me. 😂

That said, I really appreciate all the hard work the Journey team is doing to make ad management accessible to smaller blogs!

Hi Josh! Thanks so much for posting! There currently aren't options to adjust the targeting or manually control the ads, but we really appreciate your feedback and will share it with the Journey team.

Thanks John. Not totally reassuring but I look forward to updates! 😂

Also: Is there really no plan to add that kind of control over ads? Concerning.

Hi Josh, frequency options are definitely a hot topic of conversation around here right now.  We try not to say anything definitive about what's coming or isn't coming so we can manage expectations and not overpromise before we're ready.  So I just wanted to assure that we hear the feedback from the community and we're in active discussions on how to approach this.

    Hi Jacob and John,

I posted a similar question yesterday, and I was encouraged to comment on this thread.  I, too, am concerned about the ad density taking away from my user experience on my site.  There are so many that they seem to really be slowing down the loading of my content.  I'm also seeing some ads break up blocks of content, such as  lists (for example, the ad will appear in between #2 and #3 on a list, making it hard to read.)  Is there a way to stop this from happening and only place ads between blocks of content?

    Thank you,

    Julie

Hi Julie Hession ! If you want to block off certain areas of content from having ads, you could add an opening <div> and closing </div> around the areas you don't want ads to load within, or convert these content areas into block groups. There's an article here that goes into more detail on how to do this.

Hi Rachel, is there a way to group within a recipe card or block off a certain section of the recipe card? My recipe cards are bombarded with ads in between individual ingredients. There are 5 ads inserted in between a list of 10 ingredients and another 3 within the instructions. I am really worried about user experience with this many ads in the recipe card. I don't mind one or two, but the density is way too much.
