Grow analytics are insights about your traffic that are provided when you have Grow installed on your site. These analytics provide metrics that you are probably familiar with if you’ve used other third party analytics tools (examples include Google Analytics 4, Jetpack, and Matomo), they are just delivered to us via the Grow script on your site.
Familiar metrics include things like sessions and pageviews (defined below), but since no two analytics tools are ever going to measure your traffic in exactly the same way, we wanted to explain how these metrics are defined when it comes to Grow.
Grow analytics are the numbers you will see in your Journey Dashboard.
What is a session?
Sessions are defined as the measurement of the full unique visit from a reader on your site.
A session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity.
A session is considered a “bounce” if the reader is on the site for less than one second and only visits a single page.
If a reader lands on your homepage, and then clicks through two additional articles, that will count as three pageviews, and one session.
In your Dashboard, Analytics > Sessions shows the total number of sessions for the selected date range.
What is a pageview?
A pageview is defined as the measurement of each page a reader visits. A page view begins as soon as the Grow script loads.
In your Dashboard, Analytics > Pageviews shows the total number of times all your pages have been visited for the selected date range.
Can I use another tool for analytics?
You can use any additional analytics tools that you'd like if you want a secondary way to measure your traffic, however, you cannot connect those tools will not connect to your Journey Dashboard. It's also important to note that different analytics tools measure traffic in slightly different ways, so numbers from two different sources will vary.
