New Conflict with Elementor and Grow
AnsweredI noticed this week that I am having issues with Elementor/Elementor Pro, which I did not have before. I use Elementor for my homepage and shop page only. I am unable to edit either page - it's just a white screen. Elementor offers no help, and I tried to roll back the latest version a couple times but it didn't work and I am unsure which version to roll back to.
I deactivated all plugins and trialed each one with the Edit with Elementor function and discovered it was related to Grow.
This was not a problem before because I was editing my homepage just last week. Any advice?

Hi Alexandra. Thanks so much for reaching out. We were able to take a look at this, and it appears that there may be a little conflict between Elementor and the Grow for WP plugin currently when the plugin is actively connected to your Grow Publisher Portal (GPP).
Our engineers are taking a closer look to see if they can spot what the issue is. In the meantime, though, if you'd like to be able to continue using Elementor and to edit the pages, what you'd want to do is disconnect the Grow Plugin and then manually add the Grow and Journey scripts to the site to make sure things are working. You'll also need to manually add the ads.txt file to the site for this setup.
You can disconnect from GPP right in the Grow plugin settings in your WP Admin and then use this URL to tell the plugin to not add the Journey script:
{{Publisher's URL}}/wp-admin/admin.php?page=grow-journey-disable. You would just replace the bracketed portion with your site's URL.After doing that, you can grab the Journey Script and the ads.txt file along with instructions on how to manually add them from the Journey settings in GPP. Scripts can typically be added either via your theme or using a plugin, and your host should be able to assist with the ads.txt file.
You can grab the Grow script from the Install Grow Script section in the Grow settings and get it added as well. Once you've done all this, you should be able to edit the pages and still have Grow and Journey working on the site. Thanks!!

The instructions say to use a plugin to install the scripts if I do not have the themes listed. Do I have to do this? I really would prefer not to add another plugin. Can I add the scripts to my theme file?

Hi Alexanda. If your theme has spot where you can add scripts (in the Customizer, for instance) that would be the simplest way to get them added. If that's not an option, then a lightweight plugin (WP Code could work well here) for adding the scripts would likely be the best option.
Potentially you could add the scripts directly to your theme files (something like the theme's header file, depending on the theme), but you would just want to be cautious editing theme files since they can be sensitive and errors in them can keep the site from working properly.

Hi there,
Could you confirm that I did this correctly and can I delete the plugin?
Thank you!
Alex

Hi Alexandra! I just checked on the site. I'm seeing both the Journey and Grow scripts in the pagesource and ads and Grow are both looking great on the site.
You should be fine to go ahead and remove the plugin. You'll just want to doublecheck afterwards that you're still seeing ads, Grow, and the ads.txt file in place after doing so. If we can help with anything else, just let us know. Thanks!

I cleared my cache, and it looks like the Grow plugin is not working on my site anymore. However, when I log into the Grow Publisher Portal is says I am connected. Any thoughts?
Maybe I will just reactivate the plugin and deactivate it when I need to edit those two pages. Do I need to have my host remove the ads.text file or anything? Thank you for all your help.

Hi Alexandra! Because you added the script to the site, the Grow Connectivity check should still be showing as active since Grow is running. Currently, it looks like everything is working on the site, so if you're able to edit the pages in Elementor, you should be all set.
If you would prefer to use the plugin and temporarily deactivate it for editing, that should be fine as well. You shouldn't have to make changes to the ads.txt your host added once it's setup. Thanks again!

Yeah, I ended up turning the plugin back on because the Grow functions weren’t showing up (like the recommended content and that side widget). So, I’m not sure what to do.

Hi Alexandra,
If you have the Grow script from the Grow settings added to the site, the Grow functions (like the widget and recommended content) should still work just fine. I was seeing them working on my end when I checked last week, but I'm not sure what the state of the plugin was at that point. If you do have the script added to the site and plugin deactivated and don't see the Grow widgets displaying, we can absolutely take a look. Otherwise, if you'd like to just keep the plugin and deactivate for editing as you mentioned, that's an option as well. Thanks!!

Hi John,
If I deactivate Grow, and clear my cache, then the Grow widgets disappear. At this time, it is deactivated.
I also have this now showing up in Grow, which I did not have before:
Your ads.txt is missing or out-of-date. This will affect your earnings if not corrected. If using Grow for WP, troubleshoot here. If not, follow the manual instructions below and then refresh this alert.
This was showing up even when I had Grow activated just a few minutes ago. What should I do? I don't mind just deactivating the plugin to edit the homepage until I get rid of Elementor, but I am worried about the ads.txt.

Hi Alexandra! It looks like your ads.txt file is just out of date, so you'll want to download the ads.txt file under Journey Settings → Ads.txt → Download Ads.txt File and replace the outdated file with the new one on your site. Then that message should go away since you're adding the ads.txt file manually instead of through the Grow plugin.

Yeah, my host actually did this for me! The Grow widgets were not working, though every time I cleared my cache. I like the widgets and was nervous it wasn’t working correctly so I just kept the plugin.

No, it’s still a problem. I just disable the Grow plugin every time I want to edit with Elementor.
